To foster international academic exchange and strengthen cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries in the field of business and management, the Faculty of Business of City University of Macau recently hosted a successful “RBGN Editors Roundtable.” The event brought together a visiting delegation of distinguished Brazilian scholars and faculty members and students for in-depth academic discussions, marked by lively engagement and rich interaction.

Full-Day Exchange with Diverse, Dynamic Formats

The Roundtable commenced on the morning of 1 July with comprehensive academic presentations and panel discussions involving the Brazilian delegation and the Faculty’s teachers and students. Participants explored a broad range of topics, including cross-border entrepreneurship, sustainability, the application of artificial intelligence in public management, stakeholder governance, financial econometric modelling, and wealth management. Through keynote speeches and Q&A sessions, the delegation and the Faculty quickly established academic resonance, laying a solid foundation for deeper dialogue later in the day.

In the afternoon, the programme intensified with two parallel breakout sessions focused on specialized themes. Teachers and students joined groups based on their research interests, engaging in more focused and interactive conversations with the Brazilian scholars on specific research methodologies, empirical findings, and potential avenues for future collaboration. The breakout discussions were notably dynamic, with active participation and thought-provoking questions that bridged theoretical rigor and practical insights.

Distinguished Scholars Share Cutting-Edge Research

The Brazilian delegation, invited by Dean Professor José Alves, comprised scholars from Brazil’s leading institutions, including the University of São Paulo (USP), the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), FECAP, and FGV-EAESP. These academics are not only active contributors to the international research community but also hold key editorial roles at renowned international journals, underscoring their significant scholarly influence.

During the Roundtable, the visiting professors delivered insightful presentations on their areas of expertise. Professor João Maurício Gama Boaventura, Editor-in-Chief of the RBGN – Brazilian Journal of Management and Professor at FEA-USP, shared his latest perspectives on stakeholder management and business networks. His colleague from FEA-USP, Professor Joelson Sampaio, engaged the audience with his extensive knowledge of financial econometric modelling, project finance, and risk assessment, stimulating discussions on recent developments in these fields with the teachers and students present.

Strengthening the Sino-Brazilian Academic Bridge

Dean Professor José Alves emphasized that Macau serves as a vital bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and that the Faculty has long been committed to advancing academic partnerships with nations such as Brazil. He noted that this Roundtable not only offered faculty members and students a valuable opportunity for direct engagement with leading international scholars but also laid the groundwork for deeper collaborative efforts in areas such as joint research, doctoral training, and scholar exchange programmes.

Academic Visit to The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen

Following the Roundtable, Dean Professor José Alves led the Brazilian delegation on an academic visit to The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, on 3 July. During the visit, the delegation shared their latest research findings in business and management with the faculty and students there, and engaged in discussions on topics of mutual interest. This cross-institutional exchange not only extended the reach of the academic activities but also opened up new possibilities for future trilateral collaboration among Mainland China, Macau, and Brazil.

The successful hosting of this Roundtable and the subsequent visit mark a new step forward in the internationalization efforts of the Faculty of Business, effectively promoting knowledge sharing and research collaboration between China and Brazil in the field of business and management. It also injects fresh momentum into academic linkages between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries.
