On 5 May 2026, the Faculty of Business at City University of Macau successfully held a special academic lecture entitled Data-driven Methods and Applications in Smart Cities. We had the honor of inviting Associate Professor Wang Hai from the School of Computing and Information Systems at Singapore Management University as the keynote speaker. The event aimed to strengthen international academic exchange and broaden research horizons for faculty and students, it was attended by a number of professors and doctoral students from the Faculty of Business.
Dr. Hai Wang drawing on his extensive research and industry experience, he systematically explained the core value of data-driven methodologies across diverse smart city scenarios from the perspectives of academic publishing and cutting-edge research. Focusing on descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, he illustrated innovative applications of data science in transportation, logistics, healthcare, and other fields through practical cases,including spatial distribution analysis of mobile payments, severity assessment for ICU patients, and multi-objective matching optimization for ride-pooling services. His lecture provided faculty and students with frontier perspectives and practical tools for data-driven research, while offering valuable insights for the Faculty of Business in related research areas.
During the interactive Q&A session, participants actively raised questions and engaged in discussions with Dr. Wang on a range of topics, including research topics for big data and business applications, interdisciplinary research design, methodological selection, and academic journal submission.
This special lecture established a high-level academic exchange platform for the Faculty of Business, supporting faculty and students in expanding research ideas and enhancing capabilities in research writing and knowledge conversion. The event concluded successfully in a warm and inspiring academic atmosphere.
