On April 15, 2026, the "HSBC/UM Macau Business Case Competition 2026" hosted by the University of Macau, came to a successful conclusion. A student team from the graduating IBC class of the Faculty of Business at the City University of Macau delivered an outstanding performance in the competition. With their exceptional case analysis skills and innovative business solutions, they stood out among many participating teams, won the second runner-up prize, and received a MOP 6,000 award from HSBC Macau Branch. This achievement fully demonstrated the solid professional competence and excellent teamwork of CityU Macau students.
The Macau regional competition featured 24 teams from various local higher education institutions, competing in an intense contest. The competition was divided into three stages: the preliminary round (advancing from 24 to 9 teams), the selection round (advancing from 9 to 3 teams), and the final championship round for the first, second, and second runner-up places. The City University of Macau team consisted of four IBC students — Shao Wenjing, Tian Yuxin, Chang Xinwen, and Yang Zhenming — and was guided by instructor Xu Mo.
The competition schedule was tight and challenging. The preliminary round involved a 24-hour extreme case analysis, where teams had to complete a case study and propose solutions within a limited time, with nine teams advancing. The second round was a 12-hour extreme case analysis, narrowing the field to three teams for the finals. The final round was a 3-hour extreme case analysis, conducted without internet access, computers, or external resources — relying solely on the team's own knowledge to complete the analysis and propose solutions.
Under high pressure, the CityU Macau team demonstrated composure, professionalism, and team spirit, ultimately securing the second runner-up position. Throughout their academic journey, the participating students continuously pursued excellence, actively embraced challenges, seized various competition opportunities, relied on their own abilities to achieve outstanding results, and accumulated strength for their future success.
The Faculty of Business will continue to promote innovation and entrepreneurship education, following the key goals and directions of the "National Plan for the Construction of a Leading Country in Education." It remains committed to cultivating outstanding business talents with global vision, social responsibility, and a spirit of service to society, contributing to Macau’s diversified economic development and providing talent-driven momentum for the future of the Greater Bay Area.
