To further promote international academic dialogue and enhance the research and teaching capabilities of its faculty, the Faculty of Business invited Professor Sandro Mendonça, an associate professor at the Department of Economics of Iscte – Lisbon University Institute, to deliver an academic sharing session titled " Innovation in Practice and Policy: Doing, Measuring, Anticipating" on February 24th. The session was attended by the Dean and faculty members.
The sharing session focused on the dynamic evolution of innovation at the practical and policy levels. Leveraging his profound academic knowledge and international perspective, Associate Professor Sandro Mendonça analyzed the diverse manifestations and developmental patterns of innovation under different contexts and role drivers from three dimensions: ethos, logos, pathos. Drawing on rich international cases, he elaborated on how innovation profoundly impacts key areas such as the iteration of infrastructure, the construction of knowledge bases, the transformation of business models, and the upgrading of consumer experiences. He pointed out that understanding the multiple dimensions and implementation paths of innovation is crucial for formulating effective policies and business strategies in a complex and changing global environment.
Centering on the session's theme and integrating their respective research fields, the attending faculty engaged in lively and interactive discussions with Associate Professor Mendonça. The exchanges not only touched upon theoretical frontiers but also delved into how to apply innovation measurement and foresight tools to future interdisciplinary research and teaching practices, creating a strong academic atmosphere.
The Faculty of Business has always been committed to building an international platform for faculty development. This invitation extended to the Professor from the Iscte – Lisbon University Institute not only provided faculty with an opportunity for direct exchange with a leading European scholar, helping to broaden research horizons and stimulate innovative ideas, but also represents an important initiative for the Faculty to deepen its academic ties with Portuguese-speaking countries and other internationally renowned universities, and to promote the substantive development of its faculty.
