Vice President Pedro Saraiva, on behalf of the NOVA University Lisbon, warmly welcomed Rector Jun Liu and his delegation and introduced the university's development. The NOVA University Lisbon was founded in 1973 and is one of the newest public universities in Portugal. It has a forward-thinking and advanced educational philosophy, a broad international vision, and emphasizes the development of interdisciplinary fields. Its disciplines cover a wide range and are dedicated to the research and innovation of advanced technologies. The university has been ranked among the youngest universities in the world for six consecutive years in the QS World University Rankings. Rector Jun Liu introduced CityU’s achievements and development blueprint, including its history, academic development, and curriculum characteristics. He pointed out that CityU will develop interdisciplinary fields supported by big data technology in five areas, hoping to leverage their respective advantages and fully explore cooperation potential.

CityU's Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Jin Lixian, Dean of Faculty of Business, Prof. José Alves, and Associate Executive Dean of Faculty of International Tourism and Management, Li Xi, respectively discussed cooperation with the counterparts of the relevant academic units of the NOVA University Lisbon, strengthening the connection between the two universities. During the meeting, the NOVA University Lisbon representative introduced the NOVA Tourism and Hospitality Platform – NOVA TOHO, which integrates knowledge from different disciplines in developing new strategies and interdisciplinary programs for the tourism industry. The platform aims to promote the long-term sustainability of service communities and the tourism industry in Portugal.

Both sides have reached a consensus on the intention to carry out practical cooperation in the fields of big data, business, international tourism, and digital humanities and social sciences, and to strengthen the development of cross-disciplinary fields by complementing each other’s strengths.

Moving forward, the two universities will engage in comprehensive cooperation in curriculum development, research projects, teacher-student exchanges, and learning programs to enhance the international perspective, global thinking, and professional quality of teachers and students. This collaboration aims to further promote the development of both universities in innovative research, teaching, and social services.

The meeting was also attended by Professor Pedro Oliveira, Dean of Nova School of Business and Economics, Professor Manuela Aparício, Associate Dean for Education of Nova Information Management School, Professor Alexandra Fiéis from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Ms. Daryl Yang, Director of the Office of Global Affairs at CityU.
