On 9th December, Faculty of Business (FOB) organized a seminar funded by Macao Foundation: Discussion on Writing Journal Papers for SCI, SSCI, CSSCI & TSSCI.
Guest speakers of the seminar, including three professors and an editor, were from Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. They were Prof. Yi-Chung Hu, Chairman of Department of Business Administration, Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan; Dr. Xiaoyu Yu, Professor of School of Management, Shanghai University; Dr. Yeung-Fai Siu, Associate Professor of Department of Government and Public Administration, University of Macau; and Dr. Lu Wan, Executive Deputy Editor of South China Journal of Economics.
Prof. Hu shared the tips on scholarly article writing and possible reasons about why the articles were rejected by the journal editors. He further suggested that one should revise the article carefully after being rejected, instead of submitting the paper to another journal immediately. Dr. Yu raised questions to allow brainstorming among students. He concluded three important Ms in data collection: multi-respondents, multi-stage and multi-contexts. Dr. Siu stressed on the significance of the format of a scholarly article. He also recommended that students should learn from the well-published scholars and textbooks, and to guide the journal writing. Last but not least, Dr. Wan shared his experience as an editor and pointed out what editors would look at while they are reviewing an article. He reminded that the students should well-organize the abstract of a scholarly article and avoid empty words of the writing.
Teaching staffs and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Business attended the seminar. For the attendees, it was a rewarding seminar. At the end of the seminar, attendees took a picture with the guest speakers.
