On April 12, 2017, Rector Shu Guang Zhang and Dr. Eva Khong, Executive Associate Dean of the FOB, were invited to visit Hengqin Financial Investment Limited (HQFI). Mr. Xu Mu, General Manager of HQFI, welcomed Rector Zhang and Dr. Khong and took them on a tour of the Hengqin Construction Gallery.
On the same day, Dr. Khong signed an agreement on Experiential and Entrepreneurial Practice-based Establishment with Mr. Hu Chuanwei, Chairman of HQFI Innovalley Incubator Limited, in the presence of a group of Hengqin leaders and managers, Mr. Zhao Guopei, Director of HQFI, and Rector Zhang.
In his welcome speech delivered during the signing ceremony, Mr. Zhao described how Innovalley has adopted the policy of "Getting into higher education institutions". Cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao is expected to establish a union that effectively pools the advantages and resources of the three regions. This collaboration between Innovalley and City U marks an important step in moves to build up the tri-regional area as technological, creative, international and open cities. The practice-based establishment marks the beginning of major cooperation between Innovalley and City U in the field of scientific research, which he believed will be extremely helpful in terms of bringing this win-win concept into reality.
Rector Zhang declared that this agreement represents an excellent opportunity for City U and HQFI to cooperate and develop together. The agreement will enhance their joint platform for resource combination and interaction, by building on the advantages each side brings to the table. It was expected to increase their cooperation across various fields and areas, including entrepreneurship training, entrepreneurship incubation, talent exchanges, visits and research, promotions, and others
Following the signing ceremony, Rector Zhang and Dr. Khong were interviewed by "Across China", a thematic TV programme on CCTV. During this half-hour interview, Rector Zhang and Dr. Khong briefly described the background of the cooperation between City U and Innovalley. Then, they explained this new cooperative agreement, which will focus primarily on entrepreneurship incubation and talent exchanges between Macao and Hengqin. Last but not least, they offered insightful opinions on the entrepreneurial environment, recent opportunities, and risks facing the relationship between Macao and Hengqin. They expect this new cooperation on "Enterprise, Education and Research" will enhance these exchanges and interactions. During the interview, Mr. Li Zhigang, Deputy Commissioner of the Talent Work Bureau of The Organization Department of the Central Committee, inspected Innovalley. Rector Zhang introduced him to the Macao higher education system, the development of City U, and notable features of its recent programmes and future plans. Rector Zhang expressed gratitude that City U has received such great care and support from the Central Government. City University of Macau will continue to focus its efforts on educating practical talents who meet the special needs of Macao.
Among the guests attending this signing ceremony were Mr. Hong Dianhui, Assistant Head of the Hengqin New District Division of Party and Mass Affairs; Mr. Xu Shuhui, Supervisor of Business Affairs; Ms. Li Juan, Assistant Head of Macao Affairs; Ms. Ye Lanjiao, representing the Zhuhai Human Resource and Employment Service Centre Hengqin Office; and Mr. Xu Mu, General Manager of HQFI.
