On the afternoon of 7th March, the first “‘One Belt, One Road’ Postgraduate Students Salon” took place at the City University of Macau. Mr. Kyan Su Lone, a member of the Preparatory Committee of the Council of CityU, Dr. Eva Khong, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business, Dr. Ivo Manuel Veiga Carneiro de Sousa, Academic Associate Dean of the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries, and numerous experts and postgraduate students attended this Salon.
“One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) is the top national policy in China. It enjoys strong support and active participation from Macao, which serves as the trade cooperation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. A major priority for City U is to promote studies that will enhance the development of Macao, the surrounding region, and partners overseas. As first steps, City U has established the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Macau “One Belt, One Road Research Center”. Each has a team of experienced researchers with a strong professional academic background, engaged in exciting and stimulating research projects.
The Research Center’s objective in launching a postgraduate students’ salon on OBOR is to build up an academic international platform where all postgraduate students can exchange cross-disciplinary ideas. The Salon will focus on Macao’s role and effectiveness as it participates in international cooperation under OBOR.
During the Salon, the guests shared their individual opinions on OBOR development, such as the concept of “One target, Two layers, Three regions and Four blocks” of Macao’s participation in OBOR. The Salon ended in vigorous discussion between the students and their teachers.
The “‘One Belt, One Road’ Postgraduate Students Salon” is jointly organized by the Macau ‘One Belt, One Road’ Research Center, the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Faculty of Business. This inaugural event marked the beginning of a series of fortnightly Salons, to be held every Tuesday. Besides this Salon, for the future academic seminars, a reading club, and other activities are planned. All postgraduate students are welcome to join.
