The Faculty of Business Advisory Board Holds Its First Meeting

On 23rd February, the Faculty of Business Advisory Board conducted its first meeting in Room T307. Rector Shu Guang Zhang presented Letters of Appointment to the Advisory Board members and introduced the history of City U. Professor Sean Li, the Registrar of City U, and Dr. Eva Khong, Executive Associate Dean of the FOB separately reported on the recent status and future expectations of City U and the FOB, inviting the Advisory Board to offer opinions, ideas and suggestions for sustainable development.

 


The Faculty of Business Advisory Board consists of experts drawn from the Financial and Cultural industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, including: Dr. Anita F. Y. Leung, Co-Chairman of Huaxia Winco Cultural Assets Group Co., Ltd.; Dr. Philip Y. H. Wong of Winco Paper Products Co., Ltd.; Mr. Su Lone Kyan, Chairman of the Board of Chong Ou Holdings Group; Mr. Dave Sun, Senior Vice President of Finance, Finance Department of Sands China Ltd.; Mr. Hubert Wang, Senior Vice President of Finance & Chief Financial Officer of MGM China Holdings Ltd.; Dr. Vincent W. K. Huen, Senior Treasurer of SJM Holdings Ltd.; Mr. Kam Lun Chan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau) Ltd.; Mr. Kim Peng Chan, Vice President of the Tai Fung Bank; Mr. Mu Xu, General Manager of HQFI Innovalley Incubator Management Co., Ltd.; Dr. Jason Chen, President of Vgain Capital Company Ltd.; Dr. Zhixiong Huang, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Macro Co., Ltd.; and Dr. Palvin Yeung, President of the Guangdong Elderly-Care Services Association.

 

The Faculty of Business Advisory Board were glad to hear of the faculty’s development.  They suggested intensifying exchanges and cooperation between City U and local banks and enterprises, which would be beneficial in terms of for offering more varied seminars and providing internships for students. In addition, the FOB Advisory Board advised the faculty to provide cultural classes for MBA and DBA students, since the combination of art and industry would accord with Macao’s strengths in the cultural and creative industries. It also recommended developing links with the Guangdong elderly-care services. This would not just provide great opportunities for student internships, but also new insights and references for Macao elderly-care services development, which will be one new power driving the diversified development of local industry. Meanwhile, the partnership between FOB and Heng Qin Innovalley expands the knowledge of students and introduces them to the concept of regional cooperation. A closer relationship between City U and Heng Qin will provide more directions and platforms for academics research by teachers and students, and for faculty development.

 

At the conclusion of the meeting, Rector Zhang highlighted the FOB special bachelor’s degree programme: the International Business Cohort. This is expected to build up international perspectives and leadership, through cooperation between City U and outside enterprises. Dr. Jason Chen, Dr. Zhixiong Huang and Dr. Palvin Yeung, who are FOB alumni, are actively seeking to develop further communication and cooperation to establish connections among alumni, as a brand new page of the story of the Faculty of Business of City University of Macau.
