To further deepen understanding of team management and organizational behavior, the Faculty of Business of the City University of Macau held a seminar on April 2, 2026, under the theme “How to Promote High-Performance Teams in the Business Environment.” The event featured Professor Ana Margarida Passos from the Department of Human Resources and Organizational Behavior at ISCTE-IUL Business School (University Institute of Lisbon), who delivered an academic presentation rich in both theoretical depth and practical insight.
The seminar focused on the formation mechanisms and operational logic of high-performance teams. Professor Passos pointed out that team effectiveness is reflected not only in task performance but also in member satisfaction and willingness to continue collaborating. Drawing on dimensions such as shared cognition, learning and adaptation, team leadership, and emotional motivation, she systematically elaborated on the key components of high-performance teams. Through relevant research and case studies, she also illustrated how behavioral mechanisms such as conformity effects, groupthink, and social loafing impact team collaboration.
On a practical level, Professor Passos emphasized that teams should engage in thorough communication and planning before starting tasks, including clarifying goals, dividing responsibilities, and setting performance standards, in order to improve collaborative efficiency and reduce uncertainty during execution. She also noted that continuous reflection and learning mechanisms can help teams enhance their adaptability and decision-making quality in complex and dynamic environments.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session, during which students actively raised questions and engaged in in-depth discussions with the speaker on topics such as team collaboration, cross-cultural communication, and leadership styles. These exchanges further enriched participants’ understanding of both theoretical frameworks and practical applications, creating a strong academic atmosphere.
The seminar not only provided access to cutting-edge international research but also helped deepen the understanding of team management and organizational behavior, promoting the integration of theory and practice. Looking ahead, the Faculty will continue to organize high-level academic activities, expand international exchange platforms, and support students’ professional development and disciplinary advancement.
