On October 18, 2024, the Faculty of Business was honored to invite presenter adjunct professor Michael Segon, MBA Director at RMIT Graduate School of Business and Central Queensland and Head of Programs of CQU, to deliver two insightful lectures for DBA students titled "Developing Corporate Ethics - Lessons from Theory and Practice."

In the lectures, Professor Segon explored the significance of corporate ethics and shared his insights on corporate social responsibility (CSR) as well as environmental, sustainability, and governance (ESG) issues. He emphasized that as the global business landscape evolves, companies increasingly need to establish robust ethical frameworks to support their operations. In today's social context, transparency and integrity have become key factors for business success.

Professor Segon highlighted the impact of an ethical climate within corporate culture on employee behavior. He pointed out that research shows employees in organizations with strong ethical cultures are more likely to exhibit appropriate moral behavior, which significantly enhances overall corporate performance. He called on corporate leaders to lead by example and drive cultural change through ethical leadership.

Additionally, Professor Segon introduced various factors to consider when establishing an ethical framework, including codes of ethics and conduct, ethics training, and internal reporting systems. He noted that these tools not only help prevent unethical behavior but also provide guidance for employees facing moral dilemmas.

The two lectures attracted numerous DBA students and facilitated in-depth discussions on corporate ethics and social responsibility. Students expressed keen interest in applying ethical principles in real business environments and actively participated in a Q&A session, delving into how to balance ethical considerations with business interests in management decisions.

The Faculty of Business looks forward to continued collaboration with Professor Segon and other experts to provide students with more learning opportunities in corporate ethics and management to address rapidly changing business challenges.
