On August 29, the FOB invited Senior Lecturer Minoru Tamura from Tokushima Bunri University in Japan to hold a lecture for BBA Year 3 Students. The lecture was themed “Japan's Employment System - Characteristics of Membership-based Employment.”
During the lecture, Dr. Tamura detailed Japan’s two employment systems: the globally standard job-based employment system and Japan’s unique membership-based employment system. He thoroughly analyzed the differences between these two systems and used examples to illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of the membership-based employment system.
Dr. Tamura particularly emphasized that, compared to other European countries, Japan’s unemployment rate remains stable, largely due to the rotation mechanism of the membership-based employment system. During the economic crises, Japan’s unemployment rate did not rise significantly. Additionally, he shared insights into the wage system within the membership-based employment system, providing students with a deeper understanding of Japan’s employment practices.
The lecture concluded successfully with enthusiastic responses from the students. They expressed their hope that the faculty would continue to invite more foreign scholars to share their experiences and knowledge, further broadening their horizons.
