FOB Teacher and Students Take Part in the "Invest in Lancang-Mekong Region for High-quality Development" Exchange Meeting

On March 28th, in the exchange meeting entitled "Invest in Lancang-Mekong Region for High-quality Development" jointly organized by the Guangzhou Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation and The Association of Promotion for Guangdong Economy & Investment. About 70 people participated in the event, including government officials from Guangzhou, representatives from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Guangzhou, the Consulate General of Cambodia in Guangzhou, and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Guangzhou. Also in attendance were Chinese export-oriented enterprises, international business associations, and experts and scholars from universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

Associate Professor Yihui Tian, Associate Dean of the FOB, shared his views on the importance of fulfilling the social responsibility of the enterprises in the development of investment in the Mammoth River region.

 

Associate Professor Yihui Tian pointed out that as the main body of the construction of the "The Belt and Road Initiative", whether enterprises can actively fulfill their social responsibilities and carry out their business operations in a responsible manner is crucial to the realization of the objectives of the "B&R" to build a common destiny, common interests and common responsibilities. He then commented on the importance of different types of enterprises in fulfilling their social responsibility. Associate Professor Tian shared his views on the fulfillment of social responsibility by different types of enterprises. He stated that reactive social responsibility meets the requirements of corporate survival, while strategic social responsibility provides development opportunities for enterprises, but also puts higher demands on their resources such as technology and knowledge. Therefore, it is an advanced process for enterprises to fulfill their social responsibility from reactive social responsibility to strategic social responsibility.

 

As a new subregional cooperation mechanism jointly developed and utilized by China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, the Lancang-Mekong cooperation has been developing rapidly since its launch in March 2016, with remarkable achievements, and has contributed to the economic and social development of the six countries in the region. This exchange meeting has further promoted the development of high-quality investment in the Mammoth region and injected new ideas for realizing the goal of sustainable development.
