Rector Jun Liu led a delegation from City University of Macau on a visit to the University of Coimbra (UC) in Portugal and received a warm welcome from João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector of UC. During the visit, the delegation toured the campus, including the library and church, and experienced the historical and cultural heritage of the university. The two sides held talks on topics such as academic discipline construction, faculty and student exchange, and talent cultivation, and renewed the student exchange agreement to deepen the friendly cooperation between the two universities. The visit aimed to promote exchanges between Macao and Portugal in education and culture, and to facilitate academic interaction and cooperation.
Vice-Rector João Nuno Calvão da Silva gave an overview of the University of Coimbra and its history. UC was founded in 1290 and is one of the oldest universities in Europe, as well as a modern center of excellence in academics. Subsequently, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on various fields of study and research, such as humanities and social sciences, business administration, education, psychology, and tourism, in order to explore more areas and opportunities for cooperation.
Rector Jun Liu introduced the development and strength of CityU’s interdisciplinary studies and emphasized the friendly cooperative relationship between CityU and UC, hoping to deepen the cooperation between the two universities in the field of education and research based on their joint student exchange programs.
Going forward, the two universities will further deepen their friendly relationship and jointly develop dual-degree programs based on their friendly partnership, strengthen the exchange and cooperation between students in internships and entrepreneurship, talent cultivation, promote the internationalization of both universities, and work together to promote the development of the cooperation platform between China and Portugal.
Other participants who joined the discussion were Director Álvaro Garrido from the Faculty of Economics, as well as representatives from CityU, including Dean Jin Lixian from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dean José Alves from the Faculty of Business, Executive Associate Dean Li Xi from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, and Head Daryl Yang from the Office of Global Affairs.
