The Case Centre of the Faculty of Business at City University of Macau continues to follow the latest developments in case research and case-based teaching in China and internationally. Through members’ participation in professional training and the sharing of knowledge within the Faculty, the Centre seeks to strengthen its capabilities in case research, case development, and case-based teaching. On 29 and 30 August 2026, Dr Limeng Yu, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business and a member of the Case Centre, attended the IACMR Case Study Series symposium, “Case Study Research Methods: Reflection and Advancement,” at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Shenzhen Institute. Following the symposium, Dr Yu shared her learning and reflections at the FOB Brown Bag session.
The symposium was jointly organised by Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR). The event brought together 163 participants from 124 universities and organisations. Its programme covered university-industry case co-creation, case research design and writing, entrepreneurial ecosystems, corporate internationalisation, and publication in leading academic journals.
During the Brown Bag session, Dr Yu reflected on the challenges of conducting case research in the age of artificial intelligence and highlighted three forms of judgment that researchers particularly need to exercise: the “analytic loop,” “situated meaning,” and “theoretical timing.” As AI develops rapidly, relevant tools can help researchers organise and process research materials more efficiently. Nevertheless, navigating the complexity of case research and developing theoretically mature explanations still depend on researchers’ accumulated scholarly experience and judgment.
By linking external professional training with internal Faculty sharing, the Case Centre seeks to translate new learning into the continued development of case knowledge and research. Going forward, the Centre will continue to bring relevant methods, experience, and resources into the Faculty. These efforts will support faculty members and students in case development, case-based teaching, university-industry collaboration, and academic research, while progressively building a body of business and management knowledge rooted in Macao, relevant to the region, and informed by an international perspective.
