Jointly organized by City University of Macau and the Guangdong Digital Economy Society, and co-hosted by the Faculty of Business and the Student Affairs Office, the campus final of the “China Economic Development Case Competition, City University of Macau” came to a successful conclusion on March 20. The event brought together professional support from expert judges from the Faculty of Finance and the Faculty of Business, and was landed with the implementation support from the Ung Choi Kun Entrepreneurship and Career Centre. The competition was also made possible through the coordination of Vice Rector Ip Kuai Peng, Professor Huang Jiashun (Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business), Assistant Professor Pang Xue from the Faculty of Business, Professor Li Qiang from the Faculty of Finance, as well as the broad support of leaders and experts including Mr. Zou Chenchong, Director of the Student Affairs Office, Mr. Sheng Jian, Director of the Research Management Office, and Professor Hou Shengtian from the Faculty of Health and Wellness.

Centered on the core theme “How Does AI Shape the Future of the Digital Economy?”, the competition aimed to guide young students to examine and tell the stories of China’s economic development from authentic business perspectives. Since the launch of the competition, the organizing committee received enthusiastic submissions from various faculties. The case analyses delved deeply into cutting-edge areas of the digital economy, including smart cities and public governance, fintech innovation, smart tourism ecosystem restructuring, the commercial application of social robotics, and industrial green transformation. These entries fully demonstrated the solid theoretical grounding and keen local business insights of our students. Evaluated on core dimensions such as topic significance, theoretical and empirical contributions, and teamwork during the final round, the eight shortlisted teams engaged in rigorous presentations and exchanges.

Following the preliminary review and on-site assessment by the judging panel, two teams were awarded First Prize, along with the “Outstanding Supervisor Award”:

  • Cross-Faculty Team (Faculty of Finance & Faculty of Business): “AI-Driven ‘Smart Tourism+’ Ecosystem Restructuring: A Case Study of Amap’s ‘One-Click Smart Tour of Macau’”. Supervisor: Professor Li Qiang.

  • Faculty of Business Team: “From Robotic Traffic Officers to Urban Transport Workers: A Multi-Case Study on the Application of Social Robotics in Mainland China and Its Implications for the Development of Macau as a Smart City”. Supervisor: Assistant Professor Liang Qingyu.

In addition to the intense competition for the first prize, a comprehensive scoring process combining preliminary and final rounds led to the selection of three second-prize teams and three third-prize teams. To further stimulate the diverse potential of young business minds, the organizing committee also established and awarded a special “Promising Business Case Recognition,” which was granted to nine teams that demonstrated outstanding business acumen and innovative promise.

The competition promises outstanding economic talents. Congratulations are extended once again to all award-winning teams, and sincere appreciation goes to every academic advisor who contributed their dedicated time and efforts behind the scenes.

The two first-prize winning teams will represent City University of Macau in the final round of the China Economic Development Case Competition (the 4th “Lingnan Cup”). They are expected to bring their business insights grounded in the Greater Bay Area to achieve great success.
