NOVA IMS Delegation Visits CityU to Promote Strategic Partnership

A delegation from NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) led by Dean Miguel Castro Neto visited the City University of Macau (CityU) yesterday and was received by Rector Jun Liu. The delegation toured the campus environment and teaching facilities. Both sides engaged in a discussion regarding joint research entities, faculty and student exchange and talent cultivation. André Barriguinha, chief operating officer (COO) of NOVA Cidade Urban Analytics Lab, and José Alves, dean of Faculty of Business attended the meeting.


Rector Liu warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed hope for promoting joint contributions to local and regional smart city development through this meeting. Dean Castro Neto hoped to leverage respective strengths to develop novel solutions for addressing urban challenges in different cultural contexts through collaboration. Both sides explored the scope and avenues for collaboration and expressed hope for establishing a joint laboratory in urban analytics, supported by their respective research capacities. Meanwhile, they also hoped to collaborate on faculty and student exchange programs, as well as short-term learning opportunities.


Following the meeting, Dean Castro Neto and COO Barriguinha delivered a seminar titled “Unlocking the Power of Data: Exploring Urban Analytics, Digital Innovation, and AI Applications” for CityU’s students and faculty. Dean Castro Neto introduced NOVA IMS’s leadership in information management, data science, and sustainable development, sharing insights on addressing global urbanization challenges through urban data analytics. COO Barriguinhaelaborated on cutting-edge laboratory projects, including low-carbon city technologies developed with MIT, the 15-minute city model, ESG Equalizer applications, and the Smart Region cross-city data platform.


Other participants at the meeting included Teresa Mouro Ferreira, chief development Officer of NOVA IMS; José Paulo Esperança, associate dean of the Faculty of Business at CityU; Han Haoying, professor at the Faculty of Innovation and Design; Wu Cheng, head of the Office of Global Affairs; and Chu Chia Wei, professor at the Faculty of Data Science.
