At the invitation of the Faculty of Business at the City University of Macau, Dr. Zhigang Ge held a special lecture on the topic of "Public Policy and Optimal Taxation" on February 14, 2025, at the Ho Yin Convention Centre on the Taipa campus.

During the lecture, Dr. Ge emphasized the impact of tax policy on entrepreneurship, exploring the trade-offs between efficiency, equity, and revenue generation in tax policy, and analyzing the role of business income within the tax system. He combined economic models with real-world intuition to provide a detailed explanation of the methods and theories for analyzing optimal tax rates, particularly highlighting the well-known Diamond-Saez formula and pointing out the relationship between optimal tax rates, national income distribution, and labor supply elasticity.

Students actively participated in discussions, sharing their understandings and feelings about tax policy. This lecture not only helped students grasp the framework and significance of economic theoretical analysis but also deepened their understanding of the complexities of tax policy through theoretical models and empirical evidence.
