On February 23rd, the Faculty of Business invited Mr. Kun Wang, Associate Director, Corporate Business Department of Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Company Limited, to deliver a lecture to the DBA students. The theme of the lecture was “Overview of Industries and Policies of Hengqin - Guangdong Macao Deep Cooperation Zone”.
Before the lecture began, Dean José Alves delivered a welcome speech. Subsequently, Mr. Kun Wang provided a detailed explanation of the four key areas of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone: its location advantages, resource support, industrial planning, and preferential policies.
He mentioned that Hengqin, as the only region connected to Hong Kong and Macao by a bridge, enjoys convenient transportation and has a special mission to serve the moderate diversification of the Macao economy. It possesses the characteristics of a new platform, new space, new demonstration, and new heights. In terms of resource support, Hengqin has increasingly improved infrastructure and abundant talent resources. Mr. Kun Wang pointed out that the current industrial planning in Hengqin mainly focuses on four sectors: scientific and technological research and high-end manufacturing industries, Macao branded industries such as traditional Chinese medicine, cultural tourism, convention and exhibition, and modern financial industry. He explained the characteristics of each industry to the students and encouraged the CityU to take a cue from other universities to connect its research results with enterprises, linking the two to promote the joint development of universities, technology research and development and high-end manufacturing.
Finally, Mr. Kun Wang emphasized the existing preferential policies in Hengqin. He first mentioned the "Separate Management" system for goods in Hengqin, which greatly facilitates the movement of personnel. In addition, the implementation of the 30 Measures to support Hengqin has also promoted innovative cross-border financial management. The policies also include the construction of a green channel for fixed-line access to the international internet and the devolution of provincial-level authority, making Hengqin more international and improving residents' quality of life. Moreover, the "Cooperation Zone Preferential Policies" encompass a wide range of measures, including a 15% preferential income tax policy for certain enterprises, incentive policies for leading enterprises, measures to support Macao-funded enterprises and promote innovation and entrepreneurship among Macao's youth, as well as development policies in areas such as integrated circuits, biomedicine, exhibition industries, and listing, attracting residents of Macao and talents from different places to develop in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone.
After the seminar, students and assistant professors showed great interest in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone and actively posed questions to Mr. Kun Wang for academic discussions.
Dean José Alves, Program Coordinator of IBC Program, Farzad Sabetzadeh, and Assistant Professor Wei-Nien Chen attended the seminar.
