FOB distinguished lecture: Enhance research and innovation ability by disciplinary crossing and integration

In order to improve the academic quality of university graduate students and cultivate good academic thinking and innovative abilities, according to the instructions and arrangements of Rector and University Management, Graduate School target to hold "Graduate Academic Training and Enhancement Series Activities" this academic year for postgraduates to improve academic research and papers.


On the afternoon of November 27, FOB Associate Prof. Jingwei Guo gave a lecture on "Enhance research and innovation ability by disciplinary crossing and integration" which was successfully held in the Cultural Center - CLG201B, Taipa Campus.


Associate Prof. Guo explained the key points, rules and paradigms of disciplinary crossing and integration, respectively. Firstly, he explained the difference and connection between "disciplinary crossing" and "interdisciplinary science" as well as "discipline" and "science". Then he emphasized 3 key points of disciplinary crossing and integration: "problem-oriented", "breaking through the thinking pattern", "broadening one's cognition", drawing out its connotation. He also listed three rules and combined his experience to help audience understand how "theory transfer, using learnings for reference by each other, object transfer." work. Finally, he summarized three classic paradigms: multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary crossing, encouraging students to have more conversations with those of other majors, understand their way of thinking, audit classes of other majors, and apply learnings to solve acute issues in their own disciplines. He believed that integrating key points and finding connections between various disciplines can achieve innovation eventually.


In the Q&A session, when the student came up with "How to publish Q1 papers in a short time", he suggested her to pay attention to the cutting-edge research results, develop the thinking of their own discipline in innovation, and seek the good partners to conduct the research and paper writing.


The audience listened to the lecture very carefully and benefited a lot. The Q&A session lasted for half an hour.
