International Business Cohort and International Hotel and Tourism Elite Program Orientation in Guangzhou

On the morning of July 15, 2018, the City University of Macau held an International Business Cohort and Tourism Elite Program Orientation in the conference room of the Hilton hotel in Guangzhou. Guests included: Professor Kong Fanqing, Vice Rector of City University of Macau; Professor Gavin Chau, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management; Professor Eva Khong, Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business; Mr. Zhou Chun, a Teacher from the Admissions Office; student representatives from the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, and parent representatives from the Faculty of Business. About 500 students and parents from all corners of China attended.

 

Vice Rector Kong Fanqing first delivered a welcome speech. She expressed her appreciation to the students and parents from across the country for attending this event. She then introduced the past history and development of the City University of Macau, together with its teaching policies and methods and admission standards, which are in line with the national policy of cultivating talents.

 

Professor Chou introduced the International Hotel and Tourism Elite Program. He highlighted the overseas study tour activities and internship programs offered by the Elite Program, which attracted the attention of many students and parents present. Su Zhaoxi, a student in the International Hotel and Tourism Elite Program, then shared what he had learned in the Elite Program during the past year and the outdoor activities in which he had participated.

 

Professor Eva Khong described the structure and characteristics of the curriculum, teaching concepts, and objectives of International Business Cohort. Under the leadership of the IBC Course Coordinator, Professor Priscilla Roberts, and other International academics, IBC students focus on cultivating leadership and team building skills and entrepreneurial abilities. The program incorporates many overseas exchanges and enterprise visits to train the students in practical skills.

 

As all the students in the International Business Cohort were currently studying at the National University of Singapore and the University of Alberta in Canada, the mother of Ye Jehui, a second-year scholarship student in the IBC, described and shared her son’s experiences of studying in the City University of Macau. Ye’s mother is very happy. She told the audience how he and the other students had grown and developed in every respect over the past two years. She thanked City U for their careful cultivation and development of her son Ye. Another mother of a student from Business management also took the stage and spoke. She explained to everyone that after their children entered City U, they had made great progress both in their studies and in terms of personal development and their knowledge and understanding of life.

 

The meeting then became an interactive session. Many parents of students took the lead in raising questions, which were answered in depth by Vice-Rector Kong and Mr. Zhou. Vice-Rector Kong thanked the students and parents for their support and interest in courses at City University. After the formal orientation, the parents continued with further inquiries and discussions. The orientation helped students and parents to understand the objectives and achievements of the City University of Macau. It also publicized the excellent features of our school, enhancing its image, which will promote the further development and progress of the University.
