FOB Visits the Practice-based Host Institutions to Review the Students’ Internship Results

On 11th August, Dr. Eva Khong, the Executive Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business, Prof. Fong Kwong Yee, the Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Li Zhuohang visited the four Experiential and Entrepreneurial Practice-based Host Institutions. During their visit, they discussed the Internship Programme with the students and expressed their recognition and gratitude to the Practice-based Host Institutions.

 

During the summer of 2016/2017, the FOB organized the first Summer Internship Programme for students. Participating students would accept an offer of a specific position in the company and acquire much practice knowledge and training through work experience. The programme opened for registration in June. After screening, six excellent students were selected, who embarked separately on internships in the Hongda Xingye Co. Ltd, the Sunten Electric Co., Ltd, Guangdong Elderly-Care Services Association, and the Shengyimeng Food Mart Limited.

 

Dr. Khong, Prof. Fong, and Dr. Li visited the said companies to familiarize themselves with the students’ working environment, actual situation, working experiences, and feelings. They also talked with representatives from the Practice-based institutions to review every detail of the internship programme, in order to improve overall planning for the continued creation of further internship opportunities for FOB students. During their visit, Dr. Lin Shaohan, Secretary of Chairman of Hongda Xingye Co. Ltd., Dr. Huang Zhixiong, Vice Chairman of the Board of Sunten Electric Co. Ltd., Mr. Gao Keyi, Secretary-general of the Guangdong Elderly-Care Services Association, Mr. Gao Jun, Deputy Secretary-general of the Association, Ms. Lin Danchun, Minister of the Association and Dr. Li Zhiping, the leader of Shengyimeng Food Mart Limited, they all showed warm welcome to the FOB representatives. Dr. Lin Shaohan then  hosted a dinner for the representatives from FOB and Practice-based Host Institutions. Dr. Khong expressed her recognition and gratitude to the Practice-based Host Institutions. The Institutions provide a great opportunity for students to integrate learning with practice. The FOB students said that they were inspired to discover the business opportunities and developments which enable them to widening their perspectives and building up capabilities for future undertaking. They had learnt about risks and solutions in real market situations and operations.  They hoped the FOB would organize more opportunities of this kind.

 
The six selected were outstanding students studying Business Administration or Applied Economics in the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral Programmes. They worked in different areas, including Finance, Project Development, Sales & Marketing, Technical Management, Operations Management, and others. Under the supervision of staff from these companies, the students came to understand the main aspects of their work and study their actual operations. They gained valuable working experience during their internships. All participating students also submitted written reports at the conclusion of their assignments, in which they stated how this experience had effectively solidified their practical appreciation and understanding of academic theories they had studied in-class.
