Course Description

The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of management accounting techniques to support management in planning, controlling and

monitoring performance in a variety of business context. 


The main contents include: the nature, source and purpose of management information, cost accounting techniques, budgeting preparation and control, capital expenditure budgeting, standard costing and variance analysis, performance measurement techniques and performance measurement in specific situations.




Course Learning Outcomes(CLOs) 

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

CLO1. Understand the nature, source and purpose of management information.

CLO2. Explain and apply cost accounting techniques.

CLO3. Prepare budgets for planning and control.

CLO4. Compare actual costs with standard costs and analyse any variances.

CLO5. Explain and apply performance measurements and monitor business performance.
