In order to improve the academic quality of university graduate students and cultivate good academic thinking and innovative abilities, CityU plans to organize the " Graduate Academic Training and Enhancement Series Activities " this academic year for postgraduates to improve academic research and papers. The FOB has launched a series of lectures.
On the afternoon of March 27th, Prof. Justin Xie gave a successful lecture on the topic of "Quantitative Methods with Applications to Interdisciplinary Research - Practical Challenges and Suggestions".
In his lecture, Prof. Xie traced the historical development of quantitative methods and highlighted the key quantitative paradigms in contemporary science. Drawing from pioneering topics in business, finance, and economics, Prof. Xie explained how qualitative and quantitative thinking jointly enhances our understanding of the physical world and society. He encouraged students to enthusiastically explore the benefits of booming technologies including scientific computing and AI, and align their research interests with practice and industry driven problems, especially those strategically important to the social and economic development in Macau and the Great Bay Area. Prof. Xie suggested that good research arises when interacting with people, thus students are encouraged to keep connected by attending various academic activities including seminars and colloquiums.
The lecture attracted a large audience from different faculties and backgrounds. The students benefited greatly from his wonderful speech, and his professional knowledge and experience sharing opened up new thinking and innovative possibilities for the students. In the final Q&A session, the atmosphere was very enthusiastic as students asked questions and received detailed answers from Prof. Justin Xie.
