Academic Year 2015/16 FOB and FHSS Orientation

On 11th September, Faculty of Business (FOB) and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) co-organized the Academic Year 2015/16 Orientation in Cultural Centre, City University of Macau (City U). The leaders of City U attended the orientation. They were Vice Rector Kong Fan Qing; Mr. Wicky So, Director of Administrative Division; Mr. Jason Kuok, Director of Finance Division; Dr. Eva Khong, Associate Dean of Faculty of Business; Dr. Gavin Chau, Associate Dean of Faculty of Business; and Dr. Liu Jianxin, Associate Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. More than 700 participants, including teachers and new students from the two faculties, attended the grand orientation.

 

Vice Rector Kong mentioned the educational philosophy of City U in her address. The aims of our university are to improve students’ quality and to develop applied and creative ability of students. Our duty is to make a contribution to society. City U is recognized and supported by the central government, Macao SAR government and all sectors of society. City U has moved to the forefront of higher education in Macao this year. The operating conditions have improved, while the education quality is at its historical height. It is an opportunity as well as a challenge. All staff in City U is trusted to make arduous efforts in order that our university can become an influential international university.

 

Vice Rector Kong also raised expectations for students. One expectation is to cherish our university lives and plan our future. Undergraduate students should try to adapt their lives in university as soon as possible, learn from the seniors and teachers, and find their own means to cultivate good learning and living practice. As for postgraduate students, they should comprehend the features of postgraduate study as well as project a good learning and living set of behaviors so that their abilities, especially the ability of analyzing and solving a problem and the ability of team cooperation, can be enhanced. Another expectation is that students should take an active part in different activities in order to enrich their university lives. The last expectations are that students should hold dreams but also keep down-to-earth, work hard and not let their parents down.

 

City U introduced the school leaders, teachers and administrative staff to the freshmen. University administrative departments also introduced the student handbook, campus facilities, E-learning platform iCAN, E-mail, students’ activities, accommodation in Macau as well as resources in library to the students. Members of the Student Union performed wonderful dance and signing in the orientation, winning warm applause from time to time.

 

The orientation ended successfully with an ovation from the assembled freshmen.
