On October 18th, the Faculty of Business invited Professor Glen Peterson from University of British Columbia, to deliver a lecture on “International Law and China’s Entry into the ‘Family of Nations’: The Question of Forced Migration and Refugees”. Academic staff members, professors and students were invited to attend this public lecture. Of behalf of City U, Professor Priscilla Roberts presented a souvenir to Professor Glen Peterson.

 

Professor Peterson introduces several topics and concepts through the lecture such as the Political Asylum and the Non-Extradition of Persons Accused of Political Offences, Banishment, the Indentured Labour Migrations and the Role of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in different background in Asia, especially in China, how did colonialism shape the experiences and approaches to forced migration and human displacement more generally.

 

Professor Peterson’s insight inspired the professors and the students, the mutual interchanges following the speech was a highlight of the lecture. The City U professors took the initiative in raising questions and discussing with our guest speaker, Professor Peterson.The discussion between the professors were reflecting and the students had learnt so much through the lecture.
