During Global Money Week, from 12th March to 18th March, Professor Sammy Leung Chung Sing of the Faculty of Business, City University of Macau, hosted a Money and Finance Seminar at the Escola Xin Hua. He delivered a speech to around 140 junior students that combined theoretical knowledge, vivid presentations, and real-life examples to introduce the concepts of saving money and financial planning.

Dr. Félix Pontes, President of the Institute of Financial Services, indicated that the theme of 2018 Global Money Week is “Money Matters Matter”. He hoped that it will help teenagers to learn more about the value of saving and be more knowledgeable financially.

Professor Leung brought in examples drawn from press, celebrities and social media to give lively explanations of the concepts of money, including the value of money, financial management, the importance of money, and the limitations of money. Furthermore, Professor Leung compared advertisements over the periods from the 1980s to today, demonstrating how social values have changed from encouraging saving money to promoting loans. Students learnt a great deal from his lecture and gave positive feedback afterwards.
